SnagIt 9 Takes Screen Captures To A New Level

I've long been a fan of TechSmith so you'll forgive my excitement as SnagIt 9 is here.

Something of a fundamental screen capture tool for me, v9.0 has been rebuilt from the ground up and comes with a wealth of funky new features.

Other than the usual still and video captures, capture/export profiles and basic editing that we know and love from previous editions the new version brings a new Office 2007-esque tab interface, full grab history and automatic organisation tool. The first of these comes in extremely handy since SnagIt 9 has a vast array of new editing options (I barely use PhotoShop anymore) including drag and drop photo splicing, canvas editing and image layering.

The full grab history also saves all captures without user intervention and the organisation tool automatically labels it by recognising from where it was captured (down to the specific website) and at what time and date. A new search bar then works in the same manner as a desktop search to make sure even the most scatological of minds can find what they want instantly.

Capture profiles have been expanded too and can now embed all URLs from web page grabs (including full page scrolling for blogs and elongated sites), while user notes and manually added weblinks are also available.

Launching on TechSmith now SnagIt 9 comes with a $49.95 RRP (upgrade options are offered), full tutorials and a 30 day free trial.

Note: If this rings your bell also check out the company's superb free Jing project. It's a blogger's dream offering instant still and video capture sharing via free web uploads (to Screencast.com, Flickr or your own FTP) for instant URL and embedding options. Yep TechSmith, we like you!
