SkypeOut Comes To All Skype UK Capable Phones

Inevitable? Maybe, but that makes it no less important...

The shackles have finally come off the mobile phone edition of Skype with the SkypeOut calls to mobile phones and landlines now available for the first time on the progressive 3 network.

The move means owners of compatible handsets like the Nokia N95 and Sony Ericsson C902, not to mention the impressive Skypephone line (pictured) will all see the benefits with no premium charged on the standard Skype SkpyeOut rates.

“Although 3 customers enjoy the best value international calling tariffs in the UK, we know that people are apprehensive about using their mobiles to call internationally, especially as international minutes aren’t typically included in mobile calling bundles," said 3 UK CEO Kevin Russell. "Giving 3 customers more ways to discover paid Skype offerings to call mobiles and landlines abroad will open up a new world via your mobile.”

We couldn't agree more Kevin - especially as the future will inevitably see telcos forced to concede to VoIP and its geography-free benefits as they are increasingly relegated to the role of 3G ISPs.

Lower mobile bills? Bring it on!

If SkypeOut gives good rates to call numbers like 0845, 0800 etc., it would be a great value add. Its crazy how much these mobile companies charge to call these numbers.

Does this mean 0800 numbers are free via mobile->skypeout??

Brilliant news.

I used to use Skype until they introduced a 3p connection charge for every SkypeOut call made. Anyone with Skype know if they still have this charge? It made me go back to my mobile instead.

At the time of writing, calls to 0800 numbers are free, and calls to 0845 numbers are 8.4p per minute including VAT. You can always find Skype's current rates at:

http://www.skype.com/go/rates

The connection fee for Skype users paying in Pounds Sterling is 3.3p including VAT - again, this may change, and you should check the fee here:

I hope that helps :)

I got annoyed at the 3p connection charge as well, but now subscribe at around &#1633 per quarter, which seems pretty good value for me for virtually unlimited landline calls. There is a website that you may already be aware of http://www.saynoto0870.com/sea... which gives alternative landline numbers for companies that use 0845 & 0870 numbers, which means when you are on hold to these companies for unbearable lengths of time at least you are not paying for the privelige.
