Sims 2 Comes To Consoles

The Sims series (and its many, many expansion packs) has one of the most successful computer games of all time and sales of hit sequel The Sims 2 have been positively stupefying. There is clearly something in us which just likes to meddle with people’s lives and making them virtual has finally made it all the more socially acceptable. Consequently, it was inevitable this great title would turn up on consoles.

Now I’m not going to explain the concept behind Sims, everyone on this planet – with the exclusion of my mother (Hi Mum!) – knows all about it. Instead let’s concentrate on what formats you can now buy it. In a word: Everything!

On 4 November owners of PS2, Xbox, GameCube, Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS systems are all going to be celebrating as Sims 2 hits the shelves of just about every real and virtual store shelf in the land. Yet perhaps the most exciting releases don’t happen until a few weeks later when the title arrives on the PSP and mobile phones. Yes, even on the move your social life suddenly going to be in serious peril.

Impressively, EA has rebuilt the game from the ground up to capitalise on the strengths and weaknesses of each console format. A near PC per perfect port is promised on the more powerful machines, with the company saying users will be amazed at what is has achieved on the Advance and DS.

Until then you’ll just have to content yourselves with these Xbox shots but don’t worry, forcing your characters to wear stupid clothes, take awful jobs, develop alcohol problems and collapse into bankruptcy is just a week away…
