Sidewinder X8 Gaming Mouse Packs BlueTrack

Microsoft's Andre Reuter hinted to us that BlueTrack would find its way into the SideWinder gaming range sometime soon, but we didn't think it would be this soon. Not that we're complaining about the announcement of the SideWinder X8, at all, BlueTrack-sporting, wireless gaming mouse that it is.

By its use of BlueTrack technology, Microsoft claims the SideWinder x8 boasts a 4000dpi resolution, 13,000fps image processing, can cope with 75G of acceleration and a 120in/s movement speed. Add to that BlueTracks ability to track better on more surfaces that laser or optical mice and Microsoft definitely has a compelling offering.

As well as this superior tracking tech, Microsoft has also added a few more stand-out features to the SideWinder X8. Probably the most interesting is the Play and Charge adaptor, which works similarly to that available for Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, in that a USB cable can be run to the wireless mouse, charging it while still in use. Frankly that's something that every rechargeable wireless mouse should offer - if only to alleviate the morning annoyance of having forgotten to put ones mouse on charge overnight.

In addition to that the SideWinder X8 sports a tilting scroll wheel, on-the-fly dpi adjustment buttons, seven programmable buttons and a macro button (for in-game macro recording). As well as the same vertically-mounded side buttons and changeable feet sported by the original SideWinder.

UK pricing isn't known yet, but with a $99.95 MSRP, expect the UK pricing to sit somewhere in the £60-70 region.

Now please, Microsoft, make a Habu with BlueTrack!
