Towards the end of November Spodemeister looked at the Shuttle XPC X100 and noted its slinky – if pricey – lines. Well its back though you could be hard pressed to spot the differences.
In fact, the new ‘X200’ is back twice with two flavours: the full on ‘X200MA’ and the stripped down ‘X200BA’ (just like university degrees).
Both rigs look virtually identical on the outside to the X100 and measure the same teeny 55mm in height whilst retaining an A4ish footprint. On the inside they also support dual core and Celeron M Intel processors, up to 2GB of RAM and come with connectivity for up to two monitors (something his questionable hair coloured-ness had issues with in their predecessor).
As far as the BA goes however that’s pretty much all you get while the kitted out MA also adds a hybrid TV tuner for analogue and digital DVB-T reception, an FM tuner, a built in DVD combo drive or dual layer DVD writer, 4-in-1 card reader, eight channel audio, wireless and 5x USB2.0 slots (though no Firewire or S-Video).
Whether you want your Bachelors or Masters the two machines are out now for £499 and £637 respectively. Just remember you’ll need to buy a CPU, RAM, HDD and many other three letter acronym-ed pieces of hardware on top.
Shuttle was keen to show us all how the X200's will retail when kitted out so I pass the floor to Chris Scheibel, the company's PR and Marketing guru:
A possible configuration of a Shuttle XPC mini X 200M to be compiled in the "Shuttle Systems Configurator" could be like this:
- OS: MS WinXP Media Center Edition
- CPU: Core2 Duo (2x 2.16GHz)
- Intel 945GM chipset and Intel GMA950 onboard graphics engine
- RAM: 2GB RAM
- HDD: 400GB
- Mini hybrid TV tuner card
- Adapter for dual monitor support
- HDMI adapter
- Fast Ethernet
This would end up in £ 1,110 (incl. VAT) for this specific configuration converted by the current rates.
He goes on to add:
Basically anything that's a complete system can be configured and ordered in our Shuttle Systems Configurator on our European web site.
Purchase however will be done from various resellers ("Shuttle Systems Partners") such as The Glow Lounge or Ambros Direct in the UK.
If you've been swayed, you know exactly where to head. Cheers Chris.
