Shure Unveils Entry Level Earphones & MPA Bundles

Given our completely reasoned if unrelenting hatred of bundled earphones - and those by Apple in particular - we cannot, in all good conscience, let this news pass by those who have yet to see the light...

Big TR favourite Shure has announced the 'SE102MPA' which (as the eagle eyed may have spotted) is a new entry level pair of earphones (the SE102) coupled with the superb MPA (Mobile Phone Adapter).

As you would expect from Shure - even at its bottom end - the SE102 utilises professional grade dynamic MicroSpeakers, a range of differently sized sound isolating sleeves and is built with a modular design. Even better, the RRP is just $99 (approx £50) and given the bundled MPA was originally sold for £40 on its own this is a real bargain for the music phone nut.

Interestingly, Shure will also offer the MPA bundle with its full SE line earphones: the SE110, SE210, SE310, SE420 and SE530 (each with 'MPA' now suffixed) for the proportionately superb prices of $129.99, $179.99, $279.99, $379.99 and $469.99 respectively. In our opinion the sweet spot in the range is the SE210 unless you have money to burn.

As for a release: they are immediately available in the US meaning we keep our fingers very tightly crossed here in the UK.

So throw out, nay burn, those horrendous bundled (white) earphones and realise the device you spent your hard earned cash on doesn't sound like a tinny, gutless, bass-less, laptop speaker after all...

These look exactly like my old pair of E2C's (except in black). Is this just a sneaky relaunch of an old product??

@purephase, I would severely doubt it ;)

I&#8217m Paul Crognale, Marketing Manager at Shure Distribution UK. I just wanted to post to help clarify the point above. The SE102 earphones are a modular earphone based on the E2c&#8217s. The E2c earphones were one of our most popular products and, following the discontinuation of the E2c line, many of our customers contacted us to find out why we stopped producing them. As such, we wanted to bring the E2c in line with the rest of the SE earphones by updating the style and by making them modular.

Although the SE102 is not currently available in the UK, we are hoping to make it available through a retail store shortly, we&#8217ll be sure to let you all know as soon as we have some news.
