Seagate has upped the ante for portable storage once again, releasing the world’s first 1.5TB drive to be available in an external 2.5 form.
The FreeAgent GoFlex is a plug-in-and-go drive formatted under NTFS, so it’s equally at home on a Mac or a PC or indeed television, with some now able to record straight to external media.
With this kind of capacity it makes sense to fit the drive like this with USB 3.0, and indeed that’s what Seagate has done. It also ships the drive with a Superspeed USB 3.0 cable so provided your computer has a USB 3.0 port you can use it right out of the box.
The drive is also compatible with Seagate’s GoFlex Net Media sharing device, so you can dock the drive and access it over the internet. In addition, adaptors are available that let you connect up via eSATA or FireWire 800 if you prefer, which is pretty neat.
The FreeAgent GoFlex is available now in the US for a sale price of $229, but for UK availability we were only told "later in the year", and we’ll have to wait and see about exact pricing as well.
