Last month we reported that ATI was working on an HDMI card and Sapphire was set to ship a model to market. Well tick and tick.
The Sapphire Radeon X1600 Pro is the offspring of this successful fluid swapping union and its HDMI slot should prove a real boon to audio and video enthusiasts. The Shader Model 3.0 card also supports Avivo for high fidelity images and HD video standards as well as HDCP (it's about time).
In terms of raw performance the X1600Pro isn’t the fastest kid on the block with its 12 pixel pipelines, 500MHz core and 800MHz memory clocks or 128 of GDDR VRAM but it displays 3D resolutions of up to 1920 x 1200 via HDMI and 2048 x 1536 through VGA.
PowerDVD and Sapphire select software comes bundled along with a DVD containing a selection of games titles. Curiously you’ll only be able to play each game for one hour before being forced to pick with titles you’d like to keep using a selection of activation codes. Curious.
The X1600Pro goes on sale in April, though it declined to offer an RRP instead suggesting you check with local suppliers. You were going to do that anyway, right?
