Over the Easter weekend you may have received many chocolate eggs, but I bet you would have preferred one of these...
Late on Thursday – just about the same time you were rushing around the supermarket trying to think up treats for Auntie Bettie, Uncle Alfred and Little Timmy – SanDisk finally began shipping the Sansa Connect.
Previewed by a highly impressed Riyad at CES in January, the Connect comes with a 2.2in colour display, 4GB of flash memory plus microSD expansion slot and – crucially – integrated WiFi connectivity. As you would expect, this is the real selling point of the Connect and its enables streaming Internet Radio, subscription to an online music library and interaction with other Connect owners including a 'friends' list which enables you to see one another's playlists.
The Connect comes with an RRP of $249.99 and seems to be an instant hit having already sold out at the SanDisk online store, though stocks can still be found at some online retailers.
I haven't yet been told of a UK release date for the Connect but we Brits shouldn't be far behind our cross pond political mates. Expect it to drop sometime in late April/early May in the region of £149.99.
...and yes, I did just say "cross pond political mates" *cough*
Disappointing Update: SanDisk has confirmed to us it has no plans to sell the Connect in the UK. With NO rival player sporting WiFi on the UK market (the Zune isn't available here, remember) we collectively all agree the company has missed a major trick and urge it to reconsider...
