Samsung is certainly a diverse company. In the last five days it has announced the world’s fastest graphics memory and its first foray into photo printers. Now it unveils the first MP3 playing digital camera.
Called the Digimax i5 MP3, the device is all the more appealing because it fits into the same super thin and light body as the company’s i5. This means a width of just 17.3mm and a range of impressive features to boot such as a 5 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom, automatic macro, 2.5in LCD, 30fps Mpeg4 VGA video and 50MB of inbuilt memory.
Looking at the integration of the MP3 capability it all seems incredibly simple. The SD card slot is used to store tracks as well as photos and film, while a headphone plug has been installed and upgraded software doubles up the camera controls with player functionality. How getting your groove on will effect battery life remains to be seen.
There’s no release date or pricing for this intriguing hybrid yet, but we await it with some interest. There are not many more sexy areas of technology than ultra compact digital cameras right now.
