The Samsung SGH-i320 is a smartphone I’ve been dying to get my hands on ever since we covered its launch at 3GSM. Well now the handset is ready to hit Europe and the French are getting it first… the French!
Not noted for being first at many things (expect first to surrender/runaway/wave the white flag… stereotype, stereotype, stereotype) this unusual release means the French are in for a treat. The SGH-i320 is actually thinner (11.5mm to 12mm) and lighter (95g to 115g) than the forever delayed but heavily droolsome Motorola Q. In fact the i320 is even thinner than a Motorola RAZR which measures 11.9mm.
The functionality is excellent too with a 2.2in QVGA landscape screen, 1.3MP camera, dual speakers, 120MB of base memory, a microSD expansion slot, Bluetooth and Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system. At this stage no WiFi or 3G support has been confirmed which would be a major blow, though EDGE is certainly there along with support for push email.
The end of the month should see sultry Parisians to the wine guzzlers of Bordeaux and sun worshippers in St Tropez all outfitted with the stylish little number and we can only hope our networks won’t be far behind. If they are however I propose a quick trip across the Channel with swords and shields like the good old days…
