As we reported yesterday, today Samsung has officially announced its new range of laptops under the "Touch of Colour" guise first pioneered in its TVs, then seen in the its monitors and now in its laptops. This launch coincides with the launch of Intel's new Centrino 2 mobile platform, codenamed Montevina, and the range will be based on this platform. So, without further ado, let's take a look at the whole range.
First there's the Q210 (below), a 12.1in, 1,280 x 800 model that replaces the Q45 in Samsung's laptop line-up. It will use the Intel PM45 chipset and will weigh just 1.95kg. It will be available in two models:
* Q210-AS02UK: Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26GHz, 1,066MHz FSB, 3GB RAM, 256MB nVidia 9200M GS, Intel Wifi 5100 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.0 EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, 320GB 5400rpm HDD.
* Q210-FSS0UK: Identical but with Intel Core 2 Duo T5750, 2.0GHz and Atheros 802.11a/b/g.
Next is the Q310 (below), a 13.3in laptop with the usual 1,280 x 800 resolution screen and a starting weight of 2kg, just 500g grams more than the Q210. There will also be two configurations at launch:
* Q310-ASS1UK: Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz, 1,066MHz FSB, 4GB RAM, 256MB nVidia 9200M GS, Intel Wifi 5100 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.0 EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, 320GB 5400rpm HDD.
* Q310-ASS0UK: Identical but with the 2.26GHz P8400 replacing the P8600.
There are two new 15.4in laptops, the entry level Q510 (below), which doesn't use the Touch of Colour design, and the R560 that does. Starting with the Q510, it will have a starting weight of 2.68kg and in place of the of the Touch of Colour design, has a simpler silver or black finish in a similar mould to the R410 we recently reviewed.
At the top of the range it will come with an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 running at 2.26GHz, 3GB of RAM and a 320GB SATA HDD. It'll rely on Intel's new X4500 integrated graphics, use 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi rather than Wireless-N and eshew Bluetooth as well. Cheaper models will utilise the 2.0GHz T5750 using a mixture of different hard drive capacities.
Only one version of the R560 (above) has been announced. It'll feature a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo P7350, 4GB RAM, a 250GB hard drive and come with all bells and whistles, including Wireless-N, Bluetooth and Gigabit Ethernet.
Finally, the new 17in offering is the Q710 (above). It has a starting weight of 3.08kg and there will be several configurations available. At the top, though, is the Q710-AS04UK. It'll be powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 running at 2.53GHz with 4GB of RAM, a 256MB nVidia 9300M GS, a 320GB HDD, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet and Wireless-N rounding off the basic features. This, however, will be the only model with a Blu-ray drive, though unfortunately it'll still share the same 1,440 x 900 resolution display as the rest of the range.
