Monday is turning into a bit of a monitor day it seems after Samsung followed up Lenovo’s bargain 22 incher with an innovative panel of its own.
At 19 inches the ‘SyncMaster 931C’ isn’t particularly large but it certainly has the Napoleon complex to mix it up with the big boys. Samsung says this mighty monitor has a 97 per cent CCFL colour reproduction “one of the highest figures available” which it claims is similar to that of CRT quality.
Aimed squared at multimedia users, amateur photographers and gamers the SM931C also boasts a lofty 2000:1 contrast ratio and lightening 2ms response time though brightness is nothing out of the ordinary at 250cd/m2. The 1280 x 1024 native resolution is also pretty standard for a panel this size though I wish we’d see more notebook-style resolutions of 1440 x 900 installed in 19 inchers.
The viewing angle isn’t as wide as we’ve seen at just 160 degrees (but who are these people who need it to be wider than that? Where are you sitting?) while there’s DVi and D-sub connectivity at the back.
There are no pricing or availability details yet but – CCFL colour reproduction aside – the SM931C doesn’t sound like it carries anything too techy to push the release date beyond the end of the year.
Update: Found it! Komplett has the SM931C on listed for £232 including VAT but you’ll have to wait until the middle of the week before you can take it home and finally see how well it reproduces those flesh tones…
