Samsung was one of the first to bring a tablet to market with its 7in Galaxy Tab last year. At Mobile World Congress last month we saw them launch its 10in version of the Tab and next week it is set to launch an 8.9in version of the Android slate.
It was last summer when rumours first began circulating that Samsung was planning on bringing out a third Android tablet. If the original Galaxy Tab was too small but the newer Galaxy Tab 10.1 looks too bulky, then the imminent arrival of an 8.9in device could be just for you. A teaser image on Samsung’s Facebook page shows a svelte-looking device clad in black and with a very slim form factor. The tablet is set to be unveiled at the Samsung Unpacked event in Florida on 22 March.
The reason for believing the new tablet will have an 8.9in form factor is the presence of the number “78910” below the “What’s your Tab life?” question. With a 7in and 10in version already launched, it seems as if the 8.9in device is all that’s left to unveil. The question of course which this launch will thrown up, is why? With two form factors already launched, will Samsung be shooting themselves in the foot by giving consumers too much choice?
There has been very little information available about this new Tab except that it runs Android (though which version is unknown). We will be covering the event on 22 March to bring you exactly what Samsung will be offering with its new Tab.
