I’m sure you all remember the Samsung YP-K5, a unit Riyad sort of liked and I had real issues with. The trouble surrounded the bolted on speaker which doubled the size and weight of the device and seemed rather niche, so thankfully Samsung’s chopped it off.
The result of this decapitation is the ‘K3’ which – in my opinion – is a far more desirable and pocket friendly device. Specs are thin on the ground at the moment but this is what we do know:
The K3 will have the same 1.8in OLED screen as the K5 and an identical control system (complete with touch sensitive buttons). An FM tuner also copies its (literally) big brother on coming aboard and it is expected to ship in matching 1GB, 2GB and 4GB variants though since we’re a few months down the line an 8GBer shouldn’t be ruled out. That is unlike video, which is a no-no considering the screen technology.
There’s no word on battery life, price, size or weight just yet but it seems safe to make an educated guess that the K3 will be better than the K5 on all accounts for obvious external speaker related reasons. I also have to admit I’m loving the new slim line form factor.
Availability remains up in the air and while I’m sure Sammy would love to be able to bring us the K3 in time to fill a teeny Santa stocking I doubt we’ll see it before the New Year.
