If you think that Samsung’s record breaking UE 5.9 (below) is too thick then you’re either a mentally damaged supermodel or Samsung itself.
Consequently the king of slim has announced a new uber-anorexic size-minus-one LCD for mobile phones. It measures a terrifyingly skinny 0.74mm thick and to put this in perspective the screen used in the UE 5.9 is nearly three times as bulky at 1.9mm.
Does this mean we will get the handsets one third the depth of the snap-tastic UE 5.9? Personally, I hope not since I’d rather the company used that extra internal space to bulk up hardware specs but there are always records to be broken and Audi TT owners keen to snap them up.
Unfortunately Sammy was less keen to give away the technical specs behind its latest waif but I’d be surprised if it broke from the well established 320 x 240 resolution format that we have come to expect from the Ultra series. Sammy did reveal however that while it is some way off including the LCD in consumer devices it has created a comparatively chubby 0.82mm model which is likely to feature in the successors to the UE II range – which themselves won’t appear until Q2!
You’ve gotta move fast in LCD world and by ‘fast’ I mean... F.A.S.... oh, you missed it... F.A... oh you missed it again... F. ...oh give up you’re hopeless.
