SE Handset: Touchscreen, Keyboard, 3G, 112g

Now I dig predictive text messaging as much as the next addict, but there comes a time when I get sick of accidentally asking my friends to come to the pub for a ‘riot’ or that I’m now on my way ‘good’. Sony Ericsson has a particularly good answer.

The M600i may have come pre-3GSM but if this is the standard we can expect at the show my next upgrade it going to be a particularly painful decision. Slim (107 x 57 x 15mm), light (112g), with a 262K 320 x 240 resolution touchscreen it had me at ‘Hello’.

Consequentially, telling you that this tasty morsel is also backed up by 3G connectivity, secure push email and company intranet access is only going to make the hurt worse. Add in the Symbian OS, handwriting recognition, music and video multimedia player, support for RRS feeds, Bluetooth and USB mass storage compatibility and you may have to read the rest of this article in a few hours after you come around and put some ice on that nasty head wound. Battery life? A quoted seven hours talk time and 340 hours standby on GSM and 2 hours 30 and 240 hours respectively on UMTS. You can blame SE for that second cranial swelling.

Being primarily a business device there is no built in digital camera though, which could be a make or break option for many. If not, the 80MB of integrated memory and the limitation of Memory Stick storage expansion look to be the only downsides, but by this stage I’m prepared to forgive it knocking over my beer and sleeping with my girlfriend if it will just find its way into my pocket. With a Q2 shipping date that could happen as early as April or as late as June, let’s all form a tight circle, burn some herbs, do the secret dance and pray to the gods of Sonya and Ericssonia that it is the former.

There’s no info yet on pricing, but the usual network tariffs will play the biggest part in this and it will be available in (Granite/Black) Black or (Crystal/Apple) White.
