Rumor: Refreshed iMacs & Mac Minis Sporting nVidia Chipsets

While not exactly the most definitive source of information, an OS X config file may well have confirmed what we suspected - the expected forthcoming iMac and Mac Mini refresh is almost definitely going to see nVidia-powered systems. Such evidence has proved accurate before, so hopefully this time will be no different.

The configuration file lists two systems the "MacMini3,1" and "iMac9,1" which bodes well for being a reference to new models, considering he current systems have the codenames "Macmini2,1" and "iMac8,1." In addition, said Macs are also mentioned in conjunction with what appears to be nVidia's MCP79 chipset, otherwise known as the GeForce 9400M. As sported by the latest MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air range.

There is a definitely level of sense in Apple pushing all of its base-spec systems to the same level of graphics capability. Certainly the possibility of a Mac Mini capable of playing back Full HD video content with nary a problem is pretty interesting. Roll on MacWorld!

Great, I now predict a month of hype and speculation, all denied by apple of course, before the introduction of a new Mac mini. When are the first few blurry photos coming out - hopefully they'll show some kind of unibody construction.

I'm excited, although I don't know whether I can justify getting myself a new Mac mini in these hard-up times.
