Rock Band 2 'Premium' Drum Kit Spotted

Rock Band 2 'Premium' Drum Kit Spotted

The competition between Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour is really starting to hot up, and we're still weeks away from the games even being released. Kotaku's helping feed the fire, with some leaked pictures of Rock Band 2's forthcoming 'premium' drum kit. And we didn't even know there was going to be one!

The kit is, apparently, being manufactured by ION, makers of the ION iED05 USB Electric Drum Kit and looks pretty darned awesome. For $300 (some £150) buyers will be getting adjustable pads, three cymbals and a sturdy metal frame. Supposedly the kit will also work as a USB drum kit on a PC, which just adds to the cool.

Add to that the recent announcement that Rock Band 2 would let buyers download the whole original game's set list and we can't help but think that at this rate Guitar Hero: World Tour's dev team are really going to have to pull something special out of their collective hats to compete. Not that we mind in the slightest, we just want to rock - regardless which game we do so to.

Damn, all these nice instruments coming out for the two games is getting a bit annoying. There's the Madcatz ones for Rock Band, and the Rock Band 2 instruments, and the Guitar Hero 4 instruments. I've not actually bought the instruments for Rock Band yet, and I can't decide which ones to get, or wait for.

The Ion RB2 drum kit is going to be the best thing that the musical video games have ever seen. Being and avid drummer myself, this is what we have been wating for. the chance to actually rock out like the talented musicians that we all hope and dream of actually becoming one day, are finnaly here, although in a virtual world. even though it may seem a little on the expensive scale, the ION kit will be worth the money, and the ability for the kit to double up as an actual working electroninic drum kit is an amazing fact.

I've actually played the new kit at a trade show, its so much nicer actually feels closer to a real kit and the bass pedal is a god send compared to the RB1 kit, I will definitely get it when its available, also handy at Uni as its doubles as a real kit (although that module you have to buy extra) as I cant make much noise but elec kit as well is pro :)
