Microsoft may only have released its updated Xbox 360 250GB last Friday, but it seems it’s already facing stock shortages.
According to Electronic Theatre major suppliers such as Tesco, Sainsburys and GAME have all raced through their stock allocation over the weekend. Local stockists also have had to turn people away, with one reporting that they had, “greatly underestimated the demand for the new unit”.
The refreshed console offers support for Microsoft’s much vaunted ‘Kinect’ technology, and also offers goodies such as integrated 802.11n Wi-Fi, an engorged 250GB hard disk and five USB ports.
It also smaller, sleeker and runs more quietly, courtesy of its die-shrinked 45nm GPU and a single large fan replacing the two noisy ones, making it a tempting upgrade proposition for existing owners as well as for new customers.
With Microsoft recently facing the embarrassment of total failure over its Kin mobile phone, at least it now has a success story to crow about.
