RIM Bringing Flash & Silverlight to BlackBerrys

Now here's a potentially very nice bragging point for BlackBerry owners...

Boy Genius reports that "it's pretty much confirmed: Research In Motion is planning on integrating full Flash and Microsoft Silverlight support into their BlackBerry web browser."

But before there are too many high fives and unhealthy amounts of chest beating BGR warns this is unlikely to happen before next summer, meaning it could be almost a year away. The (entirely logical) reasoning is said to be because RIM needs both its devices to be faster (a long held Apple contention with Flash and Silverlight) and network speeds to be available to do it justice. And no, we're not talking 7.2Mbit HSDPA but LTE.

RIM has successfully tested such speeds, but theory tends to be extremely different to real world tests where 1,000s are sharing the same cell tower.

So RIM looks set to be the first major manufacturer to declare allegiance to both standards, but with such a long waiting time could the likes of HTC, Samsung, LG and even Apple beat them to a retail launch? You'd have to think so...
