Pure Announces New Marshall Branded Radio

Pure Evoke-1S Marshall brings Rock and Roll to the Kitchen

DAB radio specialist, Pure has just announced a new radio based on its collaboration with guitar amplifier legends, Marshall Amplification. The Pure Evoke-1S Marshall follows the successful Pure Evoke 1XT Marshall that was released a few years ago.

It's literally just a remodelled version of the existing Evoke-1S but adds a bit of fun in the shape of classic Marshall amp styling. So you get the textured black vinyl covering, rubber handle, plastic corner protectors, white Marshall logo, and of course the gold control panel. Most important of all, though, is the volume knob goes to 11! Although, we rather associate that with Spinal Tap rather than Marshall but heigh-ho. As a tie-in with the Planet Rock radio station, it also defaults to that station when you first turn it on and tune it in.

The radio's feature's include DAB and FM tuning, 30 presets with dedicated buttons for 6 of them on the front, a bright OLED display, an auxilliary 3.5mm jack round the back for plugging in your mp3 player or such like. There's also a headphone socket, space for an optional battery pack that provides 24 hours portable listening, and a separate matching second speaker is available for stereo listening.

Available 1st August, the exclusive launch partner for the first few weeks is HMV where it will set you back £119.99, which is about £30 more than the standard Evoke-1S. That is a bit pricey but it's not extortionate and it's a bit of fun. We've got a sample unit sat here so keep your eyes peeled for a review very shortly. In the mean time, keep rocking!!!11

"Why don't you just make '10' louder?"

Slick. I don't own a DAB radio but I'd be tempted to get that - either for myself or as a gift. Like you said, not too pricey and quite quirky.

That thing is horrific.

After seeing that I´m tempted to hock my Marshal DSL half stack. Not cool.

I agree, that is just the most ugly thing I have seen for a while. Also volume 11 - that's just poor thinking. Marshall's need to get a grip on both their design and implementation. I think it's about 4/10 at best.

Wow, harsh! It's a bit of fun, guys.

I have an EVOKE-1XT. Sound quality is average to say the least. Very mid/bassy. No top end to speak of.

On a related note, the volume control on the iPlayer also goes up to 11.
