Shuttle revealed today two new additions to its mini PC range both based on Intel’s recently announced 915G chipset. The XPC SB81P and the XPC SB83G5 both feature a 16 x PCI Express graphics slot and an all-new integrated cooling engine (ICE) to cope with the demands of higher clocked processors.
This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen the SB81P as Riyad caught site of it at Computex a couple of weeks ago. Shuttle boxes have traditionally put compactness ahead of expandability, but the SB81P will give you both thanks to a more radical design compared to the usual Shuttle boxes.
With space for three hard disks and the Matrix RAID included on the 915G chipset, you can have a system that’s both striped and mirrored giving both performance and security in one small package. The SB81P features a hefty 350W silent power supply to cope with the extra drives but also promises high quality eight channel audio.
If you want a slightly more traditional Shuttle design, the XPC SB83G5 might be more to your taste. The machine is finished in silver and features ‘stealthed’ drive bays, located behind a flap. Users will also get the benefit of Serial ATA RAID, Gigabit LAN, FireWire, and WiFi. Also included in the new box is Intel’s new Direct X 9 integrated graphics solution and six channel output from optical and coaxial digital ports.
We’ve been sent of review sample of the SB81P, so check back for a full review soon.
