Epson Stylus CX6600
Epson has added a new All-in-One device to its line-up. The Epson Stylus CX6600 can print, scan and photocopy and even integrates a memory card reader so you can print without the need for a PC.
All-in-One units have always appealed as space saving devices, but in the past, tended to deliver pretty poor results. However, they have really come on in the last few years.
Epson claims the CX660 can print at up to 22 pages per minute (ppm) and claims a frankly ridiculously high print resolution of 5,760dpi. This is quite evidently a software optimised figure and a call to Epson revealed that the native print resolution is actually 2,800 x 1,440.
The CX6600 is a four colour printer and uses separate ink cartridges, which helps to keep running costs manageable. Epson’s DURABrite inks are supplied, which Epson claims are water, smudge and light resistant. The CX6600 also offers borderless printing, which is great for those family snaps.
The integrated scanner offers a resolution of 1,200 x 2,400, which is enough for all mainstream home and office tasks. The Epson Smart Panel on the front enables users to send the resultant scan straight to an email or save it to a file. The unit can also perform black and white photo copying.
The memory card reader is another useful feature and offers direct support for nine different memory formats. It’s even possible to store scans directly on a memory card without having to use a PC.
The suggested retail price for the CX6600 is £127.65
Epson Perfection 2480 Photo
Epson has also announced a new entry level scanner – the Perfection 2480 Photo. This offers a high specification at a low entry level price of £79.
The maximum resolution of 2,400 x 4,800 ensures that even the smallest details can be picked up. The Perfection 2480 Photo includes a film adapter, providing a way for those who prefer to use 35mm film cameras to get their images onto a computer, without having to use a separate film scanner. The best can also be obtained from old film and photographs, thanks to the 2480’s built-in colour restoration and dust removal features.
The scanner features four buttons on the front of the chassis which provide simple one-click, scan to email, scan to web, scan and save and copy tools.
The Perfection 2480 Photo uses USB 2.0 to connect to the PC and includes ArcSoft PhotoImpression 5 photo creativity software and ABBYY FineReader 6 Sprint OCR software.
