It's time for cinemaphiles to get very excited again...

Today industry darling Pioneer has lifted the veil on its brand spanking new line of second generation KURO HDTVs and, quite frankly, we're agog.

Few detailed specifications have been given away at this stage but we do know Pioneer is claiming 5x deeper black levels than its revolutionary Kuro originals with full 1080p native resolutions across the range (goodbye 720p/1080i) and first retail availability in June.

Breaking them down we also find Pioneer is dropping 42 inchers from its line-up with the 50in, $4,000, 'PDP-5020FD' (above, left) the new entry level followed by the 60in $5,500 'PDP-6020FD'. Both these sets will also be 20 per cent thinner than their predecessors measuring only 9.3cm thick and they'll come with new remotes, a redesigned onscreen GUI and automated brightness and picture adjustment modes which detect the light in a room as well as - rather brilliantly - the type of action taking place on screen.

As previously an Elite line of Kuros will also debut later on in the shape of the 50in 'PRO-111FD' and 60in 'PRO-151FD, 'PRO-101FD' and 'PRO-141FD' (above, right) models. These ultra high enders will come with two year warranties, further reduced thicknesses of just 6.35cm and be tuner-less and speaker-less with extreme customisation options. Prices start at $5,500 and $6,500 for the first two with the latter pair's wallet damage yet to be disclosed. Release dates will spread across Q3 and Q4.

At the same time Pioneer has also firmed up its first KURO branded projector which we've told you about already.

Could we be more excited? Let's just say we're off for a much needed change of underwear...
