Pioneer NavGate AVIC-9110BT Navigation & Media Unit Launched

If the satnav and entertainment system in your Volkwagen Scirocco - or a selection of other Volkswagen, Skoda and Seat cars - isn't quite doing it for you maybe Pioneer's NavGate AVIC-F9110BT will. It might not have the snappiest name ever, but the replacement head unit does have some notable features.

The AVIC-9110BT will happily accept CDs and DVDs and can play DivX content from either media on its 5.8in, 800 x 480 pixel display. MPEG-4 video and MP3, WAV or AAC audio can be played from disc or SD card. A separately available dedicated iPod connector cable enables control of Apple players from the head unit, as per similar systems.

Navigation is provided by TeleAtlas maps, which offer 5.5 million miles of road, 1.7 million Points-of-Interest and will display famous landmarks 3D - thrilling stuff. As well as providing voice-guided navigation, the unit will also read out TMC updates and promises "accurate guidance in areas where GPS coverage is compromised."

The Pioneer's NavGate AVIC-F9110BT will be available both as an option on new VW, Skoda and Seat cars and as a plug-in replacement from July.

Fans of lists will no doubt enjoy this one, detailing which cars the head unit is compatible with:

Oh, TrustedReviews, why must you torment me so? I've been dredging the internets for weeks to find an integrated Navi/Media unit for my 2002 Passat. The standard VW units are risible, I'm sick of carrying my Tomtom around and sticking it to the screen. This leaves me with dodgy Windows CE 5 knock-offs from China on eBay. When this article popped up on my rss feed, I thought you'd found a solution for me. Alas and alack!

Any other readers have a suggestion for me? I have a Phatbox for music, so iPods aren't welcome for now.
