Pentax New Optio Has 6 Appeal

Following yesterday’s insane forty product launch from Canon I never wanted to see a digital camera again, much less write about one. Nevertheless Pentax has news which goes to show I’m at your beck and call and not the other way around (dammit).

The Optio 60, however, is a nice looking mid range camera and Pentax hasn’t let us down with a bad Optio in months. There’s six whole megapixels at your disposal here for what should be under £180 and an industry standard 3x optical zoom. At 91 x 61 x 38mm it is nice and compact for the price range and a 130k 2in LCD is a nice touch.

Six photography modes are available and the video capture can reach 320 x 240 resolution in AVI compressed format with the length of clips only limited by the capacity of your SD Card. It doubles as a webcam and the 12MB of built in memory should be good for about 10 high quality shots if you need emergency storage.

Two AA batteries promise to deliver over 150 shots on a single charge and at 150g (excluding batteries) and 200g loaded and ready it’s not bulimic, but it is no pocket breaker either. Given the recent history of Pentax models (check out the associated reviews down the side of this article) the 60 is likely to let no-one down if they’re looking to store memories on a cheap yet reliable partner.
