We've religiously reviewed every model of ToughBook from Panasonic over the last few years and we'll be looking forward to getting our hands on this one more than most...
The ToughBook 'CF-08' is the company's first dedicated tablet and to show it dumps Vista in favour of Windows CE 5.0: the low cost, low power draw, small footprint OS which operates under the shared source model.
On the hardware side of things the CF08 comes equipped with a 10.4in 1,024 x 768 touch screen display which Panasonic claims is capable of withstanding falls from up to 1.2m (that's metres, not miles), is powered by an Intel PXA270 312MHz CPU and has extensive connectivity with USB, wireless b/g, Bluetooth and an Ethernet port. Memory is limited to just 64MB RAM/ROM but it does come with an SD/SDHC compatible expansion slot to boost this further.
At just 267 x 208 x 36mm the CF-08 is small too and interested parties (read: businesses) will be able to snap it up from 15 May for an as yet undisclosed price.
