The 2008 PMA launch season continues with Panasonic announcing the launch of no less than eight new compact camera models. Pricing and exact launch dates have yet to be confirmed, but they should all be on sale within a month or so.

With the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ2 and TZ3 having been big hits in 2007, it no surprise that Panasonic has followed up with two new models in the same range. The new cameras are the 8.1-megapixerl DMC-TZ4 and the 9.1-megapixel DMC-TZ5, following a logical progression from the 6.0-megapixel TZ2 and 7.2-megapixel TZ3.

Both of the new cameras feature the same 28mm-equivalent 10x zoom lens, compact stainless steel body, Mega OIS image stabilisation and Intelligent Auto mode as the earlier cameras. The TZ4 features the same 2.5-inch monitor screen as the TZ2, but the TZ5 adds several new features into the equation, of which the most noticeable will be the bigger 3-inch monitor with a resolution of an impressive 460,000 dots, twice the resolution of any other compact camera monitor on the market. The TZ5 also offers 720p HD movie recording, which looks like being a popular feature on digital cameras in 2008. Both new cameras also have the Venus Engine IV image processor, with maximum sensitivity of 6400 ISO.
