Packard Bell certainly isn't a company you'd associate with gaming rigs but it seems the company is ready to take a second, more committed, swipe at this sector...
Consequently it is launching the 'ipower X2.0' a highly customisable gaming desktop with styling to match the Acer Predator and Asus ARES CG6155 but with a more budget-friendly range of specifications.
Users will have the option of Intel Core 2 Quad or Core 2 Extreme CPUs, flagship GPUs from either nVidia or AMD/ATI and even different cooling options including water cooling for a near-silent system. A Blu-ray drive, 7.1 audio, TV tuner and gaming peripherals including a matching keyboard and monitor are also all available.
"The ipower X2.0 was designed to meet the needs of all PC gamers, from pro players to league competitors and hobbyists", said Emmanuel Fromont, Packard Bell VP of sales and marketing. "With this launch, Packard Bell extends its commitment to the world of gaming, and we hope our participation will help expand this exciting market space."
Bizarrely however PB intends to hold back the ipower X2.0 until Q4 so I suspect specs may need to change again before then while price points will range from €999 to €1,799. No I don't understand it either but while Acer, Asus, Dell, Alienware and Voodoo are unlikely to be shaking in their boots, an extra option is never a bad thing...
In related news Packard Bell is also believed to be prepping a desktop replacement gaming laptop also for Q4 so expect to hear more on this soon.
