If you go down to the shops today, you’re sure of a big surprise. If you go down to the shops today, you’d better be streetwise. For every game that ever there was, will gather there for certain because, Thursday’s the day the PSP has its UK launch.
It has taken an age to be sure and grey imports mean some have had theirs since January, but the wait in nearly over. Games developers are so excited that many have fired off their titles a little prematurely and you will find them on shop shelves from today.
Most lacking in self control is Activation, which has sprayed out Spiderman 2, Tony Hawk's Underground Remix and Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade. It is not the only quivering culprit, however, with a number of UMD movies mysteriously turning up too. Old Boy is spotted in greatest numbers, sources tell us.
As for the console launch itself, Sony has unhelpfully confirmed “the Oxford Street HMV” will be open until midnight to celebrate the PSP’s arrival. Why unhelpful? There are three on Oxford Street: one by Tottenham Court Road, one opposite Poland Street and one towards Bond Street. Thankfully a little investigation from yours truly discovered what the King of Proprietary meant to say was “the Oxford Circus HMV”, that’s the one opposite Poland Street. (Turn up at midnight and you’ll get vouchers worth £125 with your PSP purchase)
As is widely known, the RRP for the PSP Value Pack is £179.99 and around 30 titles will be available from day one. Demand is also expected to far outstrip supply, so psyche up as queues could get ugly.
