PAYG Nirvana As 3's INQ1 Launches Today

Ok, I don't really want to spoil our impending review but the INQ1 is a game changing handset for the pre-pay market and it is hitting stores today.

3's simply wonderful INQ1 goes on sale for just £79.99 on PAYG or free from just £15pm - a deal which will land you unlimited texts, web access and calls to other 3 customers plus 75 cross network minutes. Up that to £20pm or £25pm and you get a matching deal plus 200 or 500 cross network minutes respectively - clearly sweet spots.

So why do I like the handset so much? For a full account check out my detailed INQ1 First Impressions but in short it is because we finally have a budget handset which prioritises software and craftsmanship over simplistic specsmanship. A perfect example is the INQ1's contact list which integrates phone, email, Skype and Facebook data even pulling profile pics and current statuses. Yep, it's just one clever nugget of a top notch little mobile.

Other snippets? Well, to quote myself (yep - I'm that self important): "Facebook, Skype, Twitter, YouTube, Bebo, eBay, Last FM, Microsoft Instant Messenger, Gmail, Google Maps are not only available on the handset but they run full time in the background, pre-fetching data and keeping users continuously connected. All run thin clients which can be accessed with or without signal (such as when on the Tube) and any notices written offline automatically send when reception returns."

Hardware specs? Not telling you - it's a mindset change, trust me - go with it...

Mine arrived on Friday. I'm delighted with it. It's as friendly to use as a good Nokia, and everything works pretty well, except there's a nasty bug in the music player / Last FM implementation, and no matter how hard I look, I can't find any Twitter integration.

no Twitter in mine also, hmmmmm....

Hoping for a review between now and the time I get my hands on INQ1 order on Saturday 13th. Only downside for me so far is that the &#16310 inclusive top-up is pre-loaded onto the PAYG simcard when you purchase the &#16379.99 model. I've been told by 3 to use the credit on this sim card first, then transfer the old simcard from my skypephone to this phone.

@darkspark88 - you can't really complain about being giving &#16310 ;)

@ darremurphy - apparently not all apps will be available from day one but will be delivered OTA over the next month or two along with a continuous stream of tasty updates (not allowed to say more at this stage!).

Can this synchronise with Outlook?

@Fatila - we were told so, though I don't see it specifically listed. I'll re-check with 3.

First one arrived with large gap between the two slide sections - really poor build quality. Replaced OK but second one cannot see a network. Took 40+ minutes with a call centre to work out that either the phone or SIM card u/s. That was 4 days ago. Expected me to go to a 3 shop over 15 miles away !!!!!! because he could not figure it out. Still no further. Quick enough to take your money but after that the service sucks. THINK CAREFULLY ABOUT USING 3.
