It seems that there are an endless number of companies in Taiwan with ones we’ve never heard of popping up all the time. OvisLink is one of these, a networking company that has apparently been around since 1992.

Today, it brought to our attention its new four 10/100 port Wireless router featuring a USB connection. The WMU-9000VPN is part of its ‘Air Live’ brand, and is a 802.11G wireless multimedia server centre and VPN router targeted at the SOHO and SME markets. The antenna is detachable enabling users to upgrade to higher gain versions if needed.

The first Wireless router to feature a USB port was Netgear’s WGT634U, first spotted by Riyad at CES, back in January. However the OvisLink outdoes this by offering four USB 2.0 ports, opening up a range of possibilities. You could have an external drive sharing music, movies and images along with a web cam to monitor that office or the nursery. You could also have a printer shared the whole time, and still have a USB port free.

The router integrates a print server as well as an FTP server and is VPN capable. Quality of Service (QoS) bandwidth management is used to ensure that no single application or user controls the entire internet bandwidth.

Security is handled by IPsec and PPTP server functions, and an SP1 Firewall. The router is also UPnP capable, so you can play online games or use programs such VoIP. Content filtering rules can also be set up by to keep unsuitable sites away from employees at work or from children at home.

The Air Live WMU-9000VPN is now available in the UK with a suggested retail price of £160.00 including VAT. The UK distributors are Cablenet Trackmaster Ltd and OvisTel Ltd
