While the launch of a 16GB iPhone (we got the exclusive) is likely to overshadow everything else this week, those not of the Cupertino persuasion also have some consoling news...
'Opera Mobile 9.5' has been announced today and it brings with it a whole bunch of features seen in the incredible Mobile Safari browser on the iPhone as well as a number of nifty tricks all its own.
Starting off with the basics, 9.5 brings full web page rendering with zoom, tabbed browsing and full screen portrait and landscape modes - essentially the minimum needed to compete now in this sector. Touchscreen controls are also there allowing pages to be scrolled around and links clicked by either a finger or stylus. A new faster rendering engine, dubbed 'Presto', also claims to reduce load times significantly.
Where 9.5 begins to strut its own stuff however is in bringing such useful additional core functionality as copying and pasting of text, the saving/sending of images and downloading of files. A password manager can also store a user's sensitive data cutting down on input time - just be sure not to lose your phone...
Lastly, Opera has expanded its Mobile widgets (mini applications) and equipped them with 'Flash Lite 3' meaning access to sites such as Google Maps and YouTube are only a few clicks away.
Opera Mobile 9.5 will be available on all major platforms including Symbian, Windows Mobile and Linux (though not the iPhone yet - wait for the SDK) and the first beta release is expected imminently. Still want more? Here's a video demonstration of 9.5 in action.
That's it, I'm all tapped out.
