While detractors have long said the Apple iPhone and T-Mobile G1 based handsets are not true smartphones because of their inability to edit office documents that now looks all set to change...
Ubiquitous third party productivity developer DataViz has done a much welcome and highly logical thing and announced it will be bringing its popular 'Documents To Go' software to Android and mobile OS X.
Compatible with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files, Documents To Go has long been used on virtually every mobile phone platform around including BlackBerry OS, Palm OS, Symbian and Windows Mobile so it makes sense for DataViz to complete its collection. The company's 'RoadSync' mobile synchronisation software is also headed to Google's OS but as yet no plans have been announced for Jobs' pride and joy.
Naturally enough the potential success of Documents To Go on either platform will largely depend on the quality of implementation DataViz can provide but with owners crying out for this kind of functionality anything but a total foul up should prove popular.
iPhone and Android smartphones? If they weren't before, any dispute over their status should be over early next year.
