I find it's always good to end a Friday afternoon with some daydreaming about products we can't afford...

Following on from LG's £1,700 15in OLED TV is news of next generation Agility and Vertex SSDs from OCZ and they are absolute flying machines.

Maximum sequential read and write speeds on both models now hit a blockbuster 285MB per second and 275MB per second respectively with sustained write now at 250MB per second. The differentiator, however, is the all important random write which comes in at an impressive 10,000 IOPS for a 4k write with the Agility 2, but a barnstorming 50,000 IOPS for the same test with a Vertex 2. By way of comparison, Intel's gorgeous second generation X-25M manages 6,600 IOPS with a random 4k write.

Seek times of both OCZ models also stay under 0.1ms (where SSDs really smash HDDs in everyday usage) and yet weigh in at only 77g. Power consumption is just 2W in operation, 0.5W in standby and they are shock resistant up to 1500G with a MTBF of 1.5m hours.

50GB to 200GB capacities for the two ranges are being made as we speak with a 400GB model also rumoured to be on its way soon. Again we await official pricing, but - as the old saying goes - if you have to ask...
