Nothing like getting the boss to spill the beans...

Running in line with what we've been hearing and counter to Apple's keynote guide Uri Gellar look-a-like and Telefonia Europe CEO Matthew Key has stated there will be an announcement from Cupertino about the impending 3G iPhone in "the coming weeks".

When pressed further Key expanded slightly explaining "That's more of a question for Apple ... but over the coming weeks we will do a joint announcement with Apple as Telefonica Group". Given that Telefonia owns O2, Key was also forced to fend off suggestions O2 gave Apple too much for the exclusive UK rights to the famed handset when it agreed to an unprecedented revenue sharing business model pointing to the company's impressive Q1 results announced today.

In these Telefonica Europe reports revenue growth of 6.4 per cent to €903m, with growth of 5.3% in operating income before depreciation and amortization (OIBDA). Notably data revenue (excluding SMS) has rocketed to €205m within that - a leap of 40.6 per cent year-on-year. As for the UK, revenue grew by 12.6 per cent (13.1 per cent OIBDA)

Key went on to say O2 would not be interested in buying Tiscali (heavily linked with Vodafone) and - quite frankly with Be Unlimited in the bag - why would it.

Lastly, for all our Swiss reader(s) out there: Swisscom has secured the contract to sell the iPhone in Switzerland. Grab your holey cheese and high cocoa content chocolate and celebrate!
