Nikon has added to its well respected Coolpix line with two new offerings. The S1100pj is the follow up to last year’s S1000pj, and once again features an integrated projector. Meanwhile, the S5100 is a more traditional compact offering that the company said excels in low light conditions.

The idea behind the Coolpix S1100pj is to provide a simply way to share images without having to connect to a computer or crowd round the display. Nikon said the projector is 40 per cent brighter than the previous model at 14 lumens, which makes it more practical to use.

It features a 14.1in megapixel sensor, a wide-angle 5x Nikkor lens and a 3in touch display. There’s a number of retouch functions on the camera itself, such as Fisheye effect, should you feel the need to perform these functions without recourse to a PC. You can also add built-in animations, background music slide, transitions and even hand drawn annotations using the Paint function, to brighten up any impromptu presentations you may be inclined to give using the camera.

The Coolpix S5100 meanwhile is a more traditional sort of beast. Offering 12.2 megapixels, it can capture at up to ISO 3200 for better low light capture and, a lens shift anti shake system, improved Motion Detection and what Nikon describes as a ground breaking Flash control system. This detects if you are holding the camera rather than using a tripod and will offer the most appropriate flash setting.

The Coolpix S1100pj will cost £349.99 and will ship from 16 September, while Nikon has yet to confirm pricing or availability for the Coolpix S5100.
