Despite the even more commoditized nature of GPS technology TomTom continues to fight the good fight and this time around has gone for golden rule #2: diversify.
Seeking out the business market, it has launched the TomTom 'PRO 4000' and 'PRO 8000', the first in a new line of navigation devices specifically developed for businesses to give to their mobile workforces.
The key differentiators are simple too: security and controllability. For while the duo both sport 4.3in widescreen displays, the same global range of maps and - in the case of the 8000 - voice address input and IQ Route technology (which factors in past traffic speeds) they also provide these corporate friendly options:
- Dedicated PRO customer service telephone line
- PIN lock to protect sensitive information
- Menu lock option that eliminates distractions and fosters safe driving
- Premium ruggedized sleeve for added durability and protection
- One free map update to be used within 12 months of first use
- Two-year limited product warranty
Access to TomTom Map Share and 'Help Me!' emergency services are also in there too so what we're essentially looking at here is the fire and forget freedom that companies' love. Launching immediately, the PRO 4000 and 8000 will retail for $329.95 and $459.95 respectively but expect bulk discounts if you're a bulk buying mega corporate.
In related news online trader handtec has listed the previously unknown 'GO 940 LIVE' on its site, an update to the GO 930 with the addition of real time traffic and safety alerts, fuel prices, weather and even a Google Search engine. A free three month trial of the services will be given to all new customers with the ensuing cost simply described as "affordable".
