PowerShot SX20 IS

PowerShot SX20 IS

Another upgrade to an existing product is the new PowerShot SX20 IS, a 12.1-megapixel update of last year's 10-megapixel SX10 IS super-zoom camera.

The new version keeps the 20x zoom optically stabilised f/2.8-5.7 lens (28-560mm equiv.) and the 2.5-inch 230k fully articulated flip-and-twist monitor, but the video mode has been upgraded to 1280 x 720 30fps with stereo audio, and the zoom lens can still be used while recording thanks to high-tech ultra-quiet motors. The SX20 IS now also sports an HDMI output socket.

Rather than a replacement for the SX10 IS, the new SX20 IS seems to be more of an in-between model, slotting into the range between the SX10 and the full-HD SX1 IS.

The PowerShot SX20 IS will be available from the end of the month with a launch price of £399, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some sharp discounts on that in the run-up to Christmas.
