Napster UK, announced today a retail partnership with TM Retail. The agreement means that Napster vouchers will be available in over 1,000 shops in the UK, including McColl’s, Martin’s, Forbuoys, RS McColl and Dillons stores.
The Napster vouchers exchanged at the till for a receipt with a unique code that can be redeemed against subscriptions or purchases of tracks from Napster’s catalogue of over one million tracks at www.napster.co.uk
This move means that Napster has upped the ante in its battle with Apple for dominance of the online music market. By having the Napster logo and vouchers available in local stores, Napster is trying to gain more grass roots support. This compares to Apple approach, with its online store only available to owners of the ‘reassuringly expensive’ iPod.
The vouchers will be helpfully colour coded. Green vouchers will give access to the Napster subscription service for £20 for two months or £35 for four months, the latter representing a saving of £5. Blue vouchers are for those who prefer to go down the permanent download route, offering bundles or 10, 22, and 33 tracks at a cost of £10, £20, and £30, respectively.
The presence of vouchers in TM Retail stores adds to the 16,000 Post Offices and Dixons Group Stores, that Napster partnered earlier this month, following its May 20 launch.
