NEC Mobile Slimmer Than RAZR

RAZR, RAZR in all the malls, you are clearly the most overrated phone of them all. I will say one thing for it however, it has made every other manufacturer on the planet desperate to come up with something thinner and one of them, NEC, continues to do so.

Terrifyingly similar to the RAZR busting L1 the company announced in August is its final version, the now i-mode and EDGE compatible 500iS. Clearly destined for an O2 shop near you, this handset is rationed to the point of starvation to add in these extra features and still maintain its 11.9mm width.

Clearly in a body so thin these were the only extra goodies NEC could squash in though as the rest of the handset remains the same. It still weighs just 94g, has a 90.8 x 47.9mm footprint, sports a 1.3 megapixel camera and a 1.9in, 65k, 220 x 176 resolution internal display. There’s Bluetooth and USB connectivity and the phone can playback MP3 files, but – in all honesty – you’re not buying the 500iS for its feature laden spec. You’re buying it because you’re vain, don’t want a VPL (Visible Phone Line) and can’t afford the more powerful Motorola V3x.

We won’t hold it against you, just remember that in your world your Ford Probe with the custom silver paint job IS cool and the Kanye West CD its playing ISN’T crap.
