NEC Announces 30in 'High Color' LCD Display

NEC may still struggle to gain acceptance in the consumer space where the likes of Dell and Samsung give it a hard time, but in the professional markets it's a killer.

That rep is only going to get bigger today too on the back of the 'LCD3090WQXi' (perhaps we see why it struggles in the consumer space...).

The ...QXI is a 30in monster which NEC claims will cover an astonishing 102 per cent colour gamut vs NTSC and 97.8 per cent coverage of the Adobe RGB colour space. With a 2,560 x 1600 native resolution the QXI is also fulfilling its form factor obligations while the support of HDCP over DVI means it is capable of some multimedia fun along the way as well.

Curiously after these basics NEC's announcement descends into a curious game of show and tell. For starters, it has released no imagery so what you see above is the 'LCD2690WUXi' - it's little brother. Compounding things, NEC then goes into great detail about 'Overdrive' (which it uses to improve response times) and 'Eco-Mode' (which reduces the power consumption from screen brightness) and a whole host of other proprietary technologies such as 'X-Light Pro', 'ColorComp' and 'AmbiBright' (not to be confused with Philips' Ambilight), but nowhere does it actually declare the response times or brightness levels.

Still, with a whopping $2,199.99 RRP (£1,100) it shouldn't be unfair to expect the QXI to be a class leader in most respects. Catch it in February, a detail NEC was good enough to tell us...
