Sony Ericsson has yet to officially confirm the existence of the Xperia Play (aka PlayStation Phone, aka Z1, aka Zeus) but its employees are doing all in their power to make sure we in the outside world know exactly what is going on behind closed doors.
At the beginning of December we got a video showing the phone in all it glory – well some of its glory, considering we didn’t get to see any games running on it. And now, we are given two more videos of the phone, this time with the Xperia branding on the back but once again we are denied any indication of how games will look on the phone. The videos, one of which was filmed at the local McDonalds, focus on the hardware aspects of the chunky device with the person modeling the phone keen to show us the sliding action of the phone.
The video shows shiny metallic sides to the Xperia Play with a micro-USB port and what could be a headphone jack on one side and the shoulder buttons and a central button on the other. There is a power button the top of the device with a camera and LED flash embedded on the glossy black back of the phone. The video even goes so far as to show us the battery though we couldn’t ascertain the size of the battery – which is something which will be very important on a gaming device such as this.
As we said, no official word is emanating from Sony Ericsson, but strong rumours suggest we will have some announcement at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month. One thing that has been noted however is that if you abbreviate the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, you could call it the S.E.X. Play – just saying.
