When you consider the fantastic job Microsoft has done with the Xbox 360 it seems amiss that the company did anything wrong. It did though and now it's keen to fix it.
When Microsoft shipped a 64MB Memory Card as a salvation to owners of the stripped down Xbox 360 Core System many shook their heads at the paucity of it. After all, this is a time of gigabytes not megabytes. Thankfully now MS has announced a half gig card and while it is still no capacious titan it is a darn site better than what went before.
Furthermore, the new 512MB 'Memory Unit' will launch be pre-loaded with Xbox Live Arcade game 'Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved' and with a retail price of just £34.99 it costs a mere £12 more than its 8x smaller forebear.
To coincide with the new card Microsoft has also said the Xbox Live Arcade game size limit will be increased from 50MB to 150MB which – on one hand – enables coders to flex their muscles and – on the other – rather cleverly renders the previous Memory Unit pretty pointless.
The 512MB Memory Unit goes on sale immediately and if you were daft enough to buy only splashed the cash on a Core System I suggest you get your silly self down the shops quick smart. Numskull.
