Microsoft Handheld Will Come

Microsoft has remained cagey about its intent to create a portable gaming platform but Corporate VP Shane Kim looks to have broken that vow of silence in an interview with Kikizo. According to Kim, "the question will be: how do we enter into that market?"

Kim expanded with a number of points Microsoft is considering: "do we do our own device, do we create our own phone - that's a question for the company itself - do we continue to go down the Windows Mobile path which is that path that we're on today, etcetera, etcetera." From what Kim is saying, it looks like Microsoft isn't likely to decide all too soon. As he points out: "For us, it's a matter of focusing on 'when', because if we chased after a mobile or handheld opportunity, we would not have the resources and ability to do things like... Project Natal."

The implication seems to be that Microsoft may be keener on bringing Live to mobile devices than creating a dedicated hardware platform. Says Kim, Microsoft has "chosen to focus on the living room experience from a hardware standpoint, if you will, but we're building a service in Live that will... will extend to other platforms. No question about it." Other platforms presumably meaning Windows and perhaps Widows Mobile - it's not like we'll see Live on the DS after all.

A definite 'watch this space' at the very least, however, methinks.

We can be sure that it will happen and that it will be Windows Mobile based but will it be casual, or a real gaming platform. Its already been rumoured about a special Chassis 1 class for phones that need to meet certain (high Level) hardware requirements.

They have a lot of work to do,

Input: TouchScreen is only good for certain types of games, sucks for platformers/Fighters

Battery Life: My phone only lasts me a day as it is and I get about 3 days out of my PSP with light on and off play at work. So combine the 2 and im screwed.

Great phone: If its ever to take off then WM7 needs to be a hell of a lot better than 6.5

I im interested in watching this develop but I see it being Plants vs Zombies, Brink, World of Goo kinda stuff. All great games, but not really attracting the PSP crowd

What happened to Live anywhere? They announced it ages ago but nothing.

Like @Runadumb say if they're serious it has to be a dedicated handheld.

I cannot be sure about anything you put here LOL

Chasing the PSP crowd? why that is such a minority it could be classed as a war crime under the EU.

Are you stoned?
