Will these crazy kids ever get it together?
In the longest running will-they-won't-they since Mulder and Scully (they did, sadly) Microsoft is once again making moon eyes at Yahoo following its appointment of new CEO Carol Bartz.
Speaking to The Times, Microsoft COO Kevin Turner got the old juices flowing once more when he professed: "They have a new CEO, and she's formulating her business plans. We've certainly made her aware and the Yahoo! board aware that if they are ever interested in an opportunity to partner with them on search, we'd like to sit down and at least have the conversation. It has to make economic sense to both parties."
Of course by 'economic sense to both parties' what Turner means is a we're-in-a-recession-now-so-you-can-kiss-that-$47.5bn-goodbye deal and Yahoo may well be powerless to resist having seen its share price crash, crash then crash some more. Then crash again and crash, then crash, etc etc.
Personally I'm praying for an agreement - not because it is likely to do Microsoft any good, it won't - but because you just need to take one look at the number of associated articles below to know each time these two talk my heart dies a little inside. Just as with Mulder and Scully...
