Medion Launches Akoya P6618 Notebook

Having suffered Ardjuna raving about the Medion Akoya S5610 notebook for the last few months, it seems only fair to give the newly announced P6618 a mention. Sticking to the same mantra of decent price versus performance the P6618 might not look spectacular, but it promises decent value for money - hardly a bad thing in the current economy.

For £599.99 and available, as usual for Medion, via Aldi the P6618 offers a 16in screen with a 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution powered by a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6600, backed up by 4GB of DDR2 RAM and a 500GB hard drive. Graphics grunt is provided by an nVidia GeForce 9600GS, which also supplies an HDMI output.

Draft-N wireless, Ethernet, a trio of USB ports and an ExpressCard should cater for most connectivity needs. Vista Home Premium 32-bit is installed by default, but Medion supplies a 64-bit disc with the system should that be desired. A small touch, for sure, but a potentially useful one.

A potential rival to the similarly specced, similarly priced Samsung R522? I'll let you decide.

be quick. last time aldi had a similar spec laptop to this, some stores only had an allocation you could count on less than one hand.

"The P6618 might not look spectacular"

I actually think that looks quite nice. Nicer than many anyway.
