Maxtor [One]Touches A Terabyte

Occasionally there are press releases that you really know you should write up, but they are kinda snooze-worthy. Then you get that deadline feeling and guilt kicks in and all of a sudden there is a story on Maxtor’s 1TB storage backup drive.

There’s little different in the latest edition of the company’s OneTouch solution apart from the groundbreaking new capacity, but the fact we are now getting products of this size is certainly cause for some celebration.

There is also a revised design to the series to make them more easily stackable and noise levels should be slightly reduced because of an improved cooling system. In addition, our guru of all things storage related Leo Waldock swept away the myths surrounding the numerous RAID configurations in his recent feature and I’m sure he’d be curious to see the OneTouch can now be configured as either a RAID 0 or RAID 1 device (it’s a long way from motorbike racing around Donington though really, isn’t it mate?).

As before there is both USB2.0 and FireWire 400/800 connectivity and a 600GB version if available if you don’t require the full terabyte. Prices for the two models will be £410 and £684 respectively and perhaps it isn’t really as boring as it sounds...

…maybe not.
