Mad Catz Signs Exclusives Rights For Xbox 360

Mad Catz has just signed an agreement to produce a range of co-branded headphones for the Xbox 360 having exclusive worldwide rights to produce the a wireless version.

The announcement is the latest licensing agreement signed by Mad Catz, which already produces a range of peripherals from the games industry including the Rock Band instruments for the popular title. The new headphones will be produced under Mad Catz’s Tritton brand, which is purchased last summer. Under the agreement, Mad Catz has the worldwide rights to manufacture, market and sell licensed, co-branded wired stereo headphones and exclusive rights to produce licensed, co-branded wireless stereo and Dolby 5.1 headphones for the Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system.

The headsets will be co-designed by both Mad Catz and Microsoft and it will also mark the first time that wireless, licensed and co-branded headphones will be available for Xbox 360. Commenting on the agreement, Darren Richardson, Mad Catz's President and CEO, stated: "We are delighted to be working so closely with Microsoft to design and brand a range of high performance headphones. The headphone category is the fastest growing category in the video game space.”

However if you were thinking of popping out any time soon to purchase some snazzy new headphones from Mad Catz, think again as the headsets will only be available towards the end of this year just in time for your Christmas present.

If they look like the ones in the picture I will take a set :)

using Turtle Beach X11s atm - which are ok but I hate the cable and the in-line amp creates too much fizz :)

Exclusive rights... they'd better be pretty damn good headphones then, and ideal for everyone in terms of design, fit and sound (if we aren't allowed any alternatives). I wonder if this agreement will also extend to Mad Catz not producing any headphones for Playstation, given the current trend toward exclusive content even for multi-platform titles. Ultimately I wish someone would explain how exclusive deals are good for the consumer, and why we put up with them... hope the answer is not an Applesque "Choice is too confusing"...
